Merry Christmas Guyyyys!

Merry Christmas, to one, to all and all that malarky!

I’m sat here typing while there is some standard tripe on the telly box, the christmas dinner slowly settling and the ale now flowing smoothly. But in the true spirit of Christmas we’ve got some things to give back….

Firstly – Yesterday, we’ve put up a nice little acoustic Christmas song for you, we put it up for download for free and now we’ve got something else pretty special for you.

We’ve got a nice little version of our previously never recorded track (apart from this little backstage video), “Blood Runs Thin”. It’s only available on 20 CDs though, in other words, like parsnips on your christmas dinner; it’s very limited!

It gets better though, we’ve bought some recycled card so we look cool and Samuel is a tad creative when he can be bothered so he will design and myself and Ben will struggle over the next couple of days with a bit of cutting a sticking (we’re not so creative). But I promise they will look great, lovely, splendid, unique and of course they’re handmade.

Even better, they’re only £2, and all the money made from the sale of this limited run of lovely discs will be donated to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, a well worthy cause I’m sure everyone will agree, and therefore you can as little as £2 pounds, or if you’re still in the giving spirit, then you can pay as much as you want/can afford. I beg you though, to dig deep, we’ve gone to the extra effort this Christmas and really want to be able to make a worthwhile donation to a cause close to our hearts.

Here’s the link to purchase one – http://theratells.bandcamp.com

To encourage the maximum amount to be donate we have decided we will arrange a VERY VERY VERY special gig for the 10 people who pay the most (+ a friend each) to come and watch us play a full band gig and have a drink in a room that seems, relatively, like a cupboard compared to most venues we play.

So yes, get spending and we’ll get sending. We will arrange a date for the gig that suits everyone once we’ve sold enough CDs.

Now, time to get back to drinking and eating and eating and drinking!

Merry Christmas / frohe Weihnachten / feliz Navidad!

Festive fun & games

We’ve been pretty busy lately opening our advent calendars and [insert other favourite festive activity here] so we thought we’d update you on what we’ve been up to…

The Ratells @ The Library Theatre

Firstly we’d like to say a massive thank you to all of you who came to see us at the Library Theatre last Friday, we really appreciate it and we went to bed that night with a huge smile on our face. It was a lovely venue and you were a lovely audience. If you’ve got any pictures/videos, please send them to press@theratells.com so we can put them up on here.

Last Friday was the launch of P H O B I A  // T A K E  A I M, our latest single, which is now available in the shop and also on iTunes & Spotify, do us a massive favour and go get it, we really do rely on every single sale to keep going and making music.

But fear not, we’re not done for this year just yet. We have 2 more lovely winter warming shows at our favourite Sheffield watering holes:

Friday 16th December – Frog & Parrot
Monday 19th December – SOYO LIVE w/ Alvarez Kings

Doors at 8pm and both dates are free entry so we’ll see you down the front!

If you didn’t make it down last Friday you will have missed out on our new merchandise. Thankfully, we are a bunch of geeks (apart from Rory who’s a nomad) and have revamped our website and managed to set up a fandabidosy shop where you can buy stuff. Oh, the merchandise will also be available at these gigs if you’d prefer to purchase in person.

Finally, we’ve got a few festive ideas to keep you entertained as we know you’re all probably sick of the John Lewis/Coca Cola christmas adverts by now so keep your mince pies peeled.

The tram has departed…

So it’s all over for another year and what a weekend it was. 175,000 people flooding to our little city over one weekend for a free for all music festival – Tramlines. We have all just about recovered and would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to all of you who came to see us at any of the 3 shows we played and a huge apology to all of you who queued outside but didn’t manage to get in, we didn’t anticipate the shows to be as packed out as they were!

If you didn’t manage to get your hands on a CD, fear not, head over to our facebook page for a free download of our latest single ‘Legacy’.

We’ll put the pics up from the 3 shows once we receive them ourselves, but for now, we’ll leave you with a special acoustic performance of our brand new track ‘Blood Runs Thin’ performed backstage at our O2 Academy Tramlines show.

Keep your eyes pealed over the next week or so for info on our very very special single launch..

Big love,
x

Corporate gigs, broken speakers and an angry train conductor

The title sort of sums up our past week really, hmm, where to start…

Corporate gigs! Yes, the shows that all bands dread doing, but for us, they actually turned out pretty decent, after a horrendous start! For the past week or so we’ve been strutting our stuff down at The Metrodome over in Barnsley as the nights entertainment for the Sheffield Junior Football presentation evenings. We’ve done it for the past few years, and it normally consists of people sat around tables staring at us on stage as if each of us had 4 heads. Anyway, this year was different, especially the last 2 nights we’ve done, with the 600 strong crowd been much more receptive. If you’ve seen us over the past few days and are reading this, then holla at us if you want one of the free CD’s we handed out, we’ve got a couple going spare.
Overall..
High Point: All the lovely people who came and had a chat with us after our set, made us sign their free CD’s in the hope that we become the next Kings of Leon and they can cash in on eBay. Scumbags! Just kidding, it was ace to hear their lovely comments about the set.

Low Point: Our P.A speakers deciding they couldn’t handle the power of our new amp and therefore cutting out after 4 songs on the first night. Oh and the 14-going-on-48-year-old on the front row on the first night, pointing at Rory after the 1st song and shouting ‘Oi, you, turn it down I’ve got a headache’.

In other news, we have been banned from Sheffield Train Station. Well, not quite, but a few weeks ago, we decided to go busking right in the centre of Sheffield Train Station and within minutes, I had a train conductor yelling in my ear and radioing in the transport police. We managed to get out before the boys in blue arrived. The ordeal was fully captured and is now on YouTube for your viewing pleasure:

Right, time to hit the sack.

Be sure to check out our Facebook Page on Monday night at 9pm for a special surprise. Here’s a clue, it’s an anagram of ‘A Leafed Clowned Orgy’. Answers on a postcard.

Quick blog, Sheffield gig tomorrow & onwards.

Ok, thought I better quickly update this, but I’ve probably not chosen the best time; on the bus with my phone, although 3G does seem to be behaving itself.

Anyway, today we busk in Sheffield and get rid of the last few of our tickets for tomorrow’s gig at The Plug. We’ve got a little party happening after as well for friends, so if you haven’t got your ticket yet don’t mess around.

Also next Saturday we’ve been asked very kindly by the man himself Jon Windle to support him at the Nottingham House in Broomhill. The gig is part of his ‘Windle Weekender’ ad is almost sold out. You can still get tickets to this special little intimate gig on Jon’s website – http://www.JonWindle.co.uk

Finally, we’ve got our first festival to announce, it’s a brand new festival that looks wicked. It’s called ‘First Days of Freedom’ and tickets are dirt cheap so no excuses.

Ok, enough mobile blogging for now. See you down the front or at the bar tomorrow night.

A festival, a gig and an update

Hollah from Camp Ratell! It’s been a while, I’m sure?

Although it’s cold and grim outside, we bring good news that’ll warm your heart; we’ve recently had the first mixes back of our new tracks (we recorded them in November at Steelworks, Sheffield) and they are sounding pretty darn sweet already! We’ll keep you updated on release plans and all that jazz, but in the meantime, if you haven’t already, be sure to download the acoustic/piano versions of the tracks from here for absolutely nothing – because we’re nice like that!

First Days of Freedom Festival – We need YOUR help!

Here’s the deal, we’ve been shortlisted for this uber-cool festival which is taking place in July of this year at a secret location down south. It’s the first ever nationwide weekend festival which is aimed specifically at school and college leavers. Massive bands are rumoured to headline and we just need one final push to make sure we make the lineup (we’d like to do this)

We need you to go on the festival’s facebook page and scroll down to ‘The Ratells’ wall post and ‘like’ our post. Simple as that! We’ve had over 60 likes already and the more we get, there more chance we have of a slot! If you’re feeling really lovely, you could leave us a nice comment too!

Live at Dickens // This Friday // Rotherham // FREE ENTRY

Just a reminder to y’all that we have a headline show down at Dickens Bar in Rotherham this Friday Night as part of Rotherham’s only Indie Club Night ‘Hang The DJ’.

Our good friends “Hero of The Day” and “Gentlemen Amongst Thieves” are supporting us so make sure you’re down early. We’re on around 10.30pm.

It’s free in too, the beer is cheap, and so are the women!

Big love,
The Ratells xx

Welcome and an update…

Welcome friends and a happy new year!

At long last we’ve sorted our website to some sort of decent standard. Everything is in good working order, although we need to finish off adding more goodies but all in good time.

As you probably will of realised if you’re reading this, we’ve launched the website with our special Chrismas bundle available on our home page here. Basically 4 CDs and a T-Shirt for only £3 measly pounds. Go buy it, we’ve got a few left but will take the page down soon once everything is together.

Anyway, the year is almost out and we’ve had a cracker, we’ve enjoyed our biggest gigs to date, a new headquarters and brilliant reactions to our new tunes. Around a month ago we were in the studio and recorded 3 of these aforementioned songs to be released this year sometime, but the acoustic versions of these tracks are now available to download from our bandcamp.

Anyway, it’s January and we’ve only got one gig this month but it’s a cracker. I’m sure we don’t need to explain how great a Monday night at SOYO is, but this is the sheffield scenester awards. We’re playing with three good friends of ours, DT from The Cartells, Risky Heroes and the blistering Elephant Keys. It’s free entry and cheap drinks, so don’t miss out.
